데려가 달라고 간절하게 애원하는 고양이 로지. 왼쪽 쪽지는 피부 알레르기로 특별한 식단을 해야 하기 때문에 간식을 주지 말라는 안내문이다.

[노트펫] 미국에서 2번이나 파양된 고양이가 새 주인을 기다리다 못해, 입양되기 위해 직접 나섰다고 고양이 전문 매체 러브 미아우가 지난 23일(현지시간) 소개했다.

4살 된 암컷 얼룩고양이 ‘로지 아조리’는 두 차례나 파양되는 아픔을 겪었다. 지난 2013년 한 위탁 가정에서 태어난 로지는 미국 워싱턴 주(州) 알링턴 시(市)에 있는 ‘퍼펙트 팔스(Purrfect Pals)’ 고양이 보호소에 온 뒤에 입양되기만 기다리고 있었다.

두 차례나 새 주인을 만났지만, 로지는 새 가정에 적응하지 못해 퍼펙트 팔스로 돌아와야만 했다. 독점욕이 강한 로지는 그 집에서 유일한 고양이이길 원한 탓에, 다른 고양이들과 사이좋게 지내지 못했다. 고양이 특유의 도도하고 건방진 태도도 집사를 힘들게 했다.

보호소에 돌아온 로지는 변화를 받아들이지 못하고, 서둘러 입양되고 싶어 했다. 하지만 몇 달을 기다려도 새 집사는 나타나지 않았다.

결국 로지가 스스로 나섰다. 사람들이 보호소에 찾아오면, 로지는 유리벽 앞에 바짝 다가서서 앞발로 절실하게 데려가 달란 뜻을 피력했다. 앞발을 위아래로 세차게 흔들며, 강한 입양 의지를 보인 것.

 

Great mews for Rosie - pawsome news from our friends @purrfect_pals ・・・ Rosie’s Been Bailed Out! Last week we introduced you to Rosie with the video of her pawing to get out of her cage. King 5 Instagram @king5seattle shared her video and someone saw her sign for skin allergies with a bonus "e" (added by a visitor with a sense of humor) and her story made it to Reddit! Rosie Azore was fostered as a kitten by the Thorngren Fosters in 2013. She was adopted back then but returned to Purrfect Pals last year as an adult because she and her brother were not getting along in the home. Adopted again in February, she was recently returned because a granddaughter in the family developed allergies. We are thrilled to report that this four year-old girl was adopted by a sweet couple from Burien who had spoken with one of our volunteers earlier last week about Rosie. The husband had seen Rosie on Instagram and was drawn to her instantly. When the volunteer asked if they’d been looking for a cat for awhile, the wife said no, it was a complete surprise to her that her husband wanted a cat! They lost a cat to cancer a few years ago and had not had one since. They are quite savvy about cat care and are willing to handle Rosie’s special diet. After completing the adoption paperwork they shopped for supplies and left the store with a cartful of new stuff for Rosie, including a bed, toys, litter/cat box, etc. We sent Rosie’s open bag of Z/D home with them, which was still half full. Rosie will be their only pet and there are no young children in the home to disturb her. It looks like Rosie has finally found the perfect home and people!!! #k5pets #k5love #catsofinstagram

그 덕분에, 로지는 지역 방송의 주목을 받게 됐다. 로지가 방송을 타고, 페이스북, 인스타그램 등을 통해 유명해진 덕분에, 정말 완벽한 집사에게 입양되는 기적이 벌어졌다.

몇 년 전 암으로 고양이를 잃은 론과 베티 부부는 그 상처로 고양이를 다시 키우지 못했다. 그런데 남편 론이 인스타그램에서 로지의 영상을 보고, 아내 베티에게 로지를 입양하자고 제안한 것.

론과 베티 부부는 로지의 입양 조건에 딱 맞았다. 부부는 고양이를 키운 경험이 있고, 부부에게 어린 자녀나 다른 고양이가 없어서 로지가 부부의 사랑을 독차지할 수 있었다.

퍼펙트 팔스 보호소의 서리스 우드는 “부부는 고양이 키우기에 상당히 요령 있는 사람들이고, 로지의 특별한 식단을 기꺼이 준비해주기로 한 데다, 입양 서류작업을 마친 뒤에 부부는 로지를 위해 카트 가득 쇼핑을 했다”며 “로지는 지금 천국에 있는 것처럼 느낄 거라고 확신한다”고 말했다.
